Fox River Trail South Photos
Starting at IPP Intersection in Geneva

Here's where we started our trip on the Fox River Trail, in Geneva, after connecting from the Illinois Prairie Path Geneva Spur. This is also where I started the 100 mile trip, from Geneva Il to Genoa Wis and back with my son in June 2007.




The trail runs through some wooded areas parallel to the Fox River at this point. This is a very nice part of the trail around Geneva. The FRT is almost all paved (with only a few short sections of crushed stone) and well maintained in this area. There are also some very nice stretches of trail south of here (from Geneva to Aurora). I haven't ridden that section as often (since I live further north) but that is one of my favorite parts of the trail.



You often have a nice view of the river off the the side (left as we go north) although some parts of the trail stray away from the river a little. If you have ridden for a long time without seeing the river, you better check to see that you are still on the Fox River Trail!

There are places where this trail connects to other bike trails and it is possible to take a fork in the wrong direction. We accidently took a fork in the trail the wrong way (further north of here) and ended up on the Illinois Prairie Path for a few miles before we realized our mistake. There is a sign at the intersection but we rode by fast and it was getting dark so we missed it. (FYI, the intersection and sign are at the bottom of Photo Page 7 of this photo tour)



Kyaks and Canoes are a familar sight on the Fox River in some locations (like in this area near Geneva).



The trail crosses a number of roads as you pass through Geneva. Some are low traffic but there are a few fairly busy roads to cross here so you will need to stay alert and may need to stop and wait for traffic at times.
